In September 1986, The Real Meat Company
opened its first very own Shop. Using loaned funds from co-founder, Richard Guy's parents, this former frozen meat centre
was transformed.

Despite applying much energy and effort,
retailing per se turned out not to be one of The Real Meat Company's core skills. In order to focus on the on-farm welfare
and maintainence of standards, Richard and Gilly decided to cease retailing themselves and to turn the Shop into the first
Real Meat Company Shop Franchise.
The manager at the time was Alistair Henden and so had the career
boost of transforming to owner. His own retail skills and work have rewarded him well.
